1) What is the cause of this disease? Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin, resistance to insulin, or both. 2) What groups of people do you think are most at risk for this disease? Some ethnic groups (particularly African Americans, Native Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanic Americans)3) What can you do to help prevent this disease?
  • A sugar called glucose enters the bloodstream. Glucose is a source of fuel for the body.
  • An organ called the pancreas makes insulin. The role of insulin is to move glucose from the bloodstream into muscle, fat, and liver cells, where it can be used as fuel.
4) Do you know someone with this disease? How is life different for them?No.
